Nationals well-rested for World Series

Washington completed its four-game sweep over St. Louis in the NLCS last Tuesday night with a 7-4 home victory in Game 4. Trea Turner helped lead the Nationals offense as he finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Juan Soto ended the contest 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Adam Eaton went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored. Patrick Corbin notched the win as he allowed four earned runs on four hits with 12 strikeouts and three walks over five innings. Daniel Hudson picked up the save as he gave up one walk in a scoreless frame. Max Scherzer gets the start tonight after allowing only one hit in seven scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts and two walks in a Game 2 3-1 win at the Cardinals.

Altuve sends Astros to World Series

Houston blew a 4-2 lead in the top of the ninth inning Saturday night at home against New York, but a walk-off two-run home run by second baseman Jose Altuve powered the Astros into the World Series. Altuve ended the contest 2-for-4 with the homer, a double, a walk and three runs scored. Yuli Gurriel finished 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. George Springer was 0-for-3 with two walks and a run. Roberto Osuna was given the win in relief after blowing the save as he gave up two earned runs on two hits with two strikeouts and no walks over one inning. Gerrit Cole will take the mound tonight after he threw seven shutout innings with seven strikeouts and five walks in a 4-1 Game 3 victory last Tuesday night at New York.

MLB Betting Trends

Washington

The Nationals are 4-0 in their last four road games. Washington is 40-16 in its last 56 games overall.

Houston

The Astros are 1-8 in the last nine home meetings versus the Nationals. Houston is 13-3 in its last 16 games versus the NL East.

Prediction:

Two dominant pitchers here and while Cole has risen to the spot of best pitcher in baseball currently, Scherzer is certainly no slouch and the extra rest will have done him some good. There are mixed ideas about what a lot of rest can do for a hot team in the postseason, but I feel it's mostly a neutral situation and an advantage for weary pitchers. Cole will be on full rest too, but I'm going to bank on Scherzer matching him pitch for pitch here and the Nationals stealing one on the road to continue their fantastic playoff run with a Game 1 win in the World Series.
