Cardinals held to three hits

St. Louis lost by a count of 3-1 Saturday at home against Washington in Game 2 of the NLCS. Jose Martinez paced the Cardinals offensively as he was 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit RBI double. Paul DeJong ended the game 1-for-3 with a run scored, while Paul Goldschmidt went 1-for-4. Adam Wainwright took the loss as he gave up three earned runs on seven hits with 11 strikeouts and one walk over 7 1/3 innings. Jack Flaherty takes the mound tonight for St. Louis after giving up one earned run on four hits with eight strikeouts and one walk over six innings to get the win in a 13-1 shellacking at Atlanta in Game 5 of the NLDS.

Scherzer, Eaton send Nats to win

Washington extended its NLCS lead to 2-0 Saturday with a 3-1 victory at St. Louis in Game 2 of the NLCS. Max Scherzer flirted with a no-hitter as he threw seven shutout innings with one hit allowed, 11 stsrikeouts and two walks. Michael Taylor helped lead the Nationals offense as he went 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Adam Eaton was 1-for-4 with a two-run double that extended the Washington lead to 3-0 in the top of the eighth inning. Trea Turner finished 2-for-4 with a run scored. Daniel Hudson retired both batters he faced to pick up the save. Stephen Strasburg will start tonight for the Nats after allowing three earned runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and one walk over six innings in a 7-3 10-inning win at Los Angeles in Game 5 of the NLDS.

MLB Betting Trends

St. Louis

The Cardinals are 8-3 in their last 11 road games. St. Louis is 11-5 in the last 16 Flaherty starts.

Washington

The Nationals are 17-4 in their last 21 games versus the NL Central. Washington is 38-16 in its last 54 games overall.

Prediction:

Washington is riding high with its pitching, but Flaherty is every bit good enough to match what the opponent is doing and then some. I think some of the pressure will be off the Cardinals' hitters here being on the road after a couple tough road showings and while Strasburg is very good, he's not invincible. And if the Cardinals can get to the bullpen, let's not forget Washington had the highest ERA among its relief pitchers of any team to ever qualify for the postseason. Bet on St. Louis to get on the board this series with a win.
