Athletics blow ninth-inning lead
Oakland allowed two runs in the ninth inning Saturday night as it fell 4-3 at Seattle but still clinched an AL Wild Card spot. The A's have an identical 96-64 record as Tampa Bay, but Oakland holds the tiebreaker as it won the season series 4-3. Marcus Semien helped lead the Oakland offense as he ended the game 1-for-3 with a solo home run plus two walks. Matt Olson went 1-for-3 with a homer, a walk and two RBIs. Matt Chapman was 2-for-5 with a run scored. Liam Hendriks suffered the loss in relief as he surrendered two earned runs on three hits with one strikeout and no walks over one-third of an inning. Brett Anderson will start tonight as he enters with a 12-9 record, 4.00 ERA and 1.32 WHIP plus 87 strikeouts over 171 innings pitched.
Crawford drives in game-winner
Seattle scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to rally for a 4-3 victory over Oakland Friday night. An RBI double by J.P. Crawford in the bottom of the ninth inning won it for the Mariners. Crawford ended the game 1-for-3 with the double, two walks, a run scored and the RBI. Shed Long went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, two runs and an RBI. Austin Nola finished 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Adam Warren threw a perfect inning of relief with no strikeouts to record the win. Marco Gonzales starts tonight for the Mariners as he comes in with a 16-12 record, 4.09 ERA and 1.32 WHIP plus 143 strikeouts across 196 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
Oakland
The A's are 8-2 in their last 10 road games. Oakland is 4-0 in the last four Anderson starts.
Seattle
The Mariners are 6-1 in the last seven Gonzales home starts. Seattle is 1-4 in the last five meetings.
Prediction:
Seattle got its one win, but I don't expect more of the same. Gonzales could pitch really well here and not get any run support to suffer a tough-luck loss. He's actually had plenty of wins-loss luck in his favor this season considering he pitches for the Mariners, while his numbers don't look quite as good as he's really pitched this season. While I'm a believer in Gonzales, I also know which team has something to play for. All in on Anderson and the A's here even if it might be another close game.
