Rangers’ Minor solid over five innings of work vs. Angels
Mike Minor whiffed seven while yielding two runs over five-plus frames Tuesday, notching his 11th win in the Rangers' 4-2 victory over the Angels. Minor yielded just two hits through the first five innings, but the Angels got his pitch count up and he was yanked after serving up a leadoff home run to Shohei Ohtani in the sixth. It was the left-hander’s shortest outing in his last six starts, although he’s now yielded two or fewer runs in six of his last seven showings. He’ll face the Angels again in his next start.
Angels’ Barria tosses five shutout innings, beat Rangers
Jaime Barria turned in five shutout innings and earned a win against the Rangers on Wednesday. He gave up just two hits -- both singles -- and issued three walks while fanning five in the ballgame. The Angels' batters gave him a big early lead to work with and he made it pay, although he barely pitched long enough to qualify for the win. His record improves to 10-8 with a fine 3.30 ERA after 22 starts. His 86:33 strikeout-to-walk ratio with 15 home runs allowed in 111 2/3 innings is merely average but he has found ways to keep his opponents off the scoreboard more often than not.
