Cardinals roll to win
St. Louis posted a 10-1 victory Saturday at Pittsburgh to improve to 80-62 overall and 34-26 on the road. Marcell Ozuna paced the Cardinals offense as he went 1-for-3 with a home run, two walks, three runs scored and three RBIs. Paul DeJong finished 1-for-4 with a double, a run and two RBIs. Harrison Bader was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Adam Wainwright picked up the win as he allowed one earned run on six hits with three strikeouts and one walk over seven innings. Jack Flaherty gets the start today as he enters with a 9-7 record, 3.14 ERA and 1.04 WHIP plus 186 strikeouts across 160 1/3 innings of work.
Marte records two-hit night
Pittsburgh lost by a count of 10-1 at home Saturday against St. Louis to drop to 62-80 overall and 31-40 at home. Starling Marte paced the Pirates offensively as he finished 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Kevin Newman was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Adam Frazier ended the game 1-for-3. Steven Brault took the loss as he allowed six runs (five earned) on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks over 5 1/3 innings pitched. James Marvel will make his MLB debut today for Pittsburgh.
MLB Betting Trends
St. Louis
The over is 4-0 in the last four Cardinals games overall. The under is 5-0-1 in the last six Flaherty Sunday starts.
Pittsburgh
The over is 4-0-1 in the last five Pirates games overall. The over is 13-6 in the last 19 Pittsburgh Sunday games.
Prediction:
Flaherty is on cruise control right now and in a pitcher's park, I can't imagine him giving up much today. I'm also banking on Marvel on the other side as he posted solid minor league numbers and the Cardinals hitters haven't seen him before. As long as the bullpens do their jobs and Marvel settles in, this game should stay under the projected total.
