Cardinals falter late
St. Louis allowed six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and another two runs in the eighth Friday night in a 9-4 defeat at Pittsburgh. Tommy Edman paced the Cardinals offense as he finished 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs. Paul DeJong went 1-for-4 with a run scored. Paul Goldschmidt ended the contest 1-for-3 plus a walk. Andrew Miller took the loss in relief as he gave up three earned runs on three hits with one strikeout and no walks over one-third of an inning. Adam Wainwright gets the start today for St. Louis as he enters with a 10-9 record, 4.30 ERA and 1.42 WHIP plus 131 strikeouts over 142 1/3 innings.
Pirates rally to win
Pittsburgh scored a combined eight runs in the seventh and eighth innings Friday night at home to post a 9-4 victory over St. Louis. Adam Frazier helped lead the Pirates offense as he finished 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk, a run scored and two RBIs. Kevin Newman ended the game 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, two runs and an RBI. Starling Marte ended the game 2-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI. Wei-Chung Wang picked up the win in relief as he retired both batters he faced. MLB Betting Trends
St. Louis
The Cardinals are 7-0 in their last seven games following a loss. St. Louis is 4-1 in its last five Saturday games.
Pittsburgh
The Pirates are 6-2 in their last eight games overall. Pittsburgh is 0-4 in the last four Brault starts.
Prediction:
St. Louis fell flat late yesterday and the Pirates have played decent baseball lately, with Brault pitching with some confidence. While it's tough to lay money on Pittsburgh to win a second straight day, I like the price on the Pirates and it's not like Wainwright has been a world beater this season. Take the Pirates in this spot.
