Semien, Canha homer in loss

Oakland lost by a score of 6-4 Wednesday night at Kansas City to drop to 76-56 overall and 33-30 on the road. Marcus Semien helped lead the Athletics' offense as he ended the contest 2-for-5 with a solo home run. Mark Canha went 1-for-3 with a homer, a walk and two RBIs. Seth Brown was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Blake Treinen took the loss in relief as he surrendered two earned runs on three hits and a walk without retiring a batter. Chris Bassitt draws the start today for Oakland as he enters with a 9-5 record, 3.59 ERA and 1.18 WHIP with 117 strikeouts over 125 1/3 innings pitched.

Royals power past A's

Kansas City recorded a 6-4 home win Wednesday night over Oakland to improve to 47-87 overall and 25-41 at home. Hunter Dozier helped pace the Royals offense as he finished 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Ryan O'Hearn went 2-for-4 with a solo homer. Jorge Soler ended the game 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run scored and an RBI. Tim Hill picked up the win in relief as he threw two perfect frames with three strikeouts. Ian Kennedy notched the save as he allowed one hit with two strikeouts and one walk in a scoreless inning of work. Glenn Sparkman gets the start today for Kansas City as he comes in with a 3-9 record, 5.52 ERA and 1.45 WHIP with 65 strikeouts over 109 1/3 innings of work.

MLB Betting Trends

Oakland

The Athletics are 9-4 in their last 13 games overall. Oakland is 10-4 in its last 14 Thursday games.

Kansas City

The Royals are 8-23 in their last 31 games overall. Kansas City is 3-13 in the last 16 Sparkman starts.

Prediction:

Fading Sparkman has been a good choice most of the season and with Bassitt providing efficiency in most of his starts, I think he pitches deeper into the game than Sparkman and leaves with the lead. Oakland's bullpen is in good shape at the back end and I trust it to close this one out. Go with the heavy favorites here.
