Nationals on a roll

Washington has won four straight and six of its last seven thanks to a 7-2 win over the Cubs on Saturday. The Nationals have put up 63 runs over the six wins. Washington is 72-57 on the season, 36-31 on the road and 62-60 with the under. The Nationals have Stephen Strasburg on the mound today. He is 15-5 on the year with a 3.65 ERA.

Washington got some solid pitching on Saturday, especially from the bullpen. After Joe Ross threw 4.1 innings and gave up both Chicago runs, the Nats pen then threw 4.2 innings of 1-hit ball. Wander Suero got his fourth win in relief. Howie Kendrick and Yan Gomes each had two hits and two RBI to lead the Nationals at the plate while Trea Turner had two hits and scored two runs.

Cubs hope to avoid sweep

Chicago has been strong at home all year, but the Cubs have dropped the first two games in this series by a combined score of 16-5. The Cubs are now 69-60 overall, 44-21 at home and 65-58 with the under. Cole Hamels is getting the start this afternoon. He is 7-4 on the season with a 3.73 ERA.

Jose Quintana lasted just four innings in his start and gave up five runs on seven hits. He fell to 11-8 on the season with the loss. Nicholas Castellanos continued to hit well for the Cubs with two hits and a RBI while Javier Baez had two hits as well.

MLB Betting Trends

Washington

The Nationals are 12-2 in their last 14 against NL Central opponents and 24-4 in Strasburg’s last 28 Sunday starts.

Chicago

The Cubs have won four straight Sunday games but have lost five straight against NL East opponents.

Prediction:

Strasburg is coming off a strong start at Pittsburgh earlier this week to end a skid of three poor outings. He is 6-2 in day games with a 2.88 ERA. He also threw eight innings of 1-run ball against the Cubs already this year. Hamels is in a bit of a funk right now, giving up 15 earned runs over his last 11 innings. Hamels does have good home and day numbers, but I just don’t like the way he has looked lately and he is facing a Washington lineup that is absolutely on fire right now. The Nats are putting up big runs over the last week and I don’t think they will need a ton of them to help Strasburg this afternoon.

MLB Prediction: Washington Nationals +110
