Gant homers, records win

St. Louis pitcher John Gant helped his own cause last night as he smacked a 2-run homer to help his own cause en route to a 6-4 victory. Gant threw 5 1/3 innings to get the win, giving up one earned run on four hits with six strikeouts and no walks. Jordan Hicks threw a perfect ninth inning for his fourth save. Kolten Wong finished 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, a walk, two runs and three RBIs.

Harper hits home run in defeat

Bryce Harper homered for his only hit in four at-bats Tuesday night, his 30th of the season. Juan Soto was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored. Daniel Murphy finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. Matt Wieters went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Gio Gonzalez suffered the loss as he gave up five earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts and three walks over four innings.

Jeremy Hellickson (5-2, 3.54 ERA) gets the start for Washington today, while Austin Gomber (2-0, 3.45) will go for St. Louis.

MLB Betting Trends

Washington

The Nationals are 8-20 in their last 28 road games. The over is 8-2-1 in the last 11 meetings.

St. Louis

The Cardinals are 3-8 in their last 11 Wednesday games. St. Louis is 4-0 in its last four during game three of a series.

Prediction:

Hellickson should fare well as a fly ball pitcher in this pitcher's park. Gomber still has a lot to learn at the MLB level and is probably due for a stumble. I know Washington hasn't played well the last few days, but the talent is still there to win games like this. Go with the visitors in this spot.
