Plouffe hits walk-off HR in 16th inning
Philadelphia's Trevor Plouffe broke a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the 16th inning Tuesday night as his 3-run home run off position player Enrique Hernandez sent the hosts to a 7-4 victory. It was the first pitching appearance of Hernandez' career. It was the only hit for Plouffe in three at-bats after entering as a reserve. Rhys Hoskins helped pace the Phillies offense by going 2-for-5 with two walks. Odubel Herrera was 1-for-6 with a walk. Carlos Santana finished 2-for-7 with a double and a run. Maikel Franco was 2-for-5 with a double, a run and an RBI. Nick Williams went 2-for-6 with a solo home run and a walk. Jorge Alfaro was 2-for-6 with a home run, a walk, two runs and two RBIs. Vince Velasquez picked up the win as the ninth Philly pitcher, giving up one hit with one strikeout and one walk in one inning of work.
Grandal hits pair of home runs
Los Angeles catcher Yasmani Grandal hit two home runs in Tuesday's loss as he finished 3-for-7 with the two solo jacks. Joc Pederson ended the night 4-for-7 with two doubles, a run and an RBI. Cody Bellinger was 2-for-6 plus a walk. Hernandez took the loss in his MLB pitching debut as he gave up three earned runs on one hit with two walks in one-third of an inning.
Walker Buehler (4-2, 3.45 ERA) draws the start today for the Dodgers, while Jake Arrieta (7-6, 3.47) takes the mound for Philadelphia.
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are 20-8 in their last 28 road games. Los Angeles is 40-19 in its last 59 games overall.
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 7-2 in their last nine home games. Philadelphia is 4-0 in Arrieta's last four starts.
Prediction:
The 16-inning affair will surely have an impact on today's contest as both bullpens are surely going to be depleted. One pitcher who wasn't used by the Phillies was closer Seranthony Dominguez, who imploded Monday night but should be recharged for this game. That could make all the difference in another close contest. Arrieta is a savvy pitcher and should hold Los Angeles to three runs or less. If he can turn it over to the bullpen in good shape after six or seven innings, I like the hosts' chance for another win.
