Royals end win streak

Kansas City had been beating up Chicago and Detroit lately, but suffered a 10-5 loss to the Indians on Friday. KC had won six of its last seven prior to Friday’s loss. KC is now 36-63 on the year, 14-34 on the road and 50-43 with the over. The Royals have Jakob Junis on the mound today. He is 5-8 on the year with a 5.08 ERA.

Mike Montgomery didn’t last long in his start on Friday, giving up five runs in two innings to take the loss and fall to 0-1 on the year. Four of the five KC pitchers gave up runs on Friday. At the plate, the Royals had nine hits for their five runs. Whit Merrifield continued his strong season, getting his 28th double and ninth triple while driving in three. Alex Gordon also had a pair of hits for the Royals.

Indians add to win streak

Cleveland has won six straight games thanks to the 10-5 victory over the Royals on Friday night. Their last five wins have been by at least three runs. The Tribe are now 56-40 on the season, 31-20 at home and 51-42 with the under. Cleveland has Adam Plutko on the mound today. He is 3-1 on the year with a 5.40 ERA.

Oscar Mercado had five hits, two RBI and two runs to lead Cleveland at the plate on Friday. The Tribe had 16 hits in the win. Of the 16 hits, just one was a home run. Tyler Naquin had the long ball and finished with two RBI and two runs. Francisco Lindor added three hits and scored three runs. Shane Bieber got the win on the mound to improve to 9-3 on the year. He threw 5.2 innings and allowed five runs with four walks and six strikeouts.

MLB Betting Trends

Kansas City

The Royals are 21-53 in their last 74 road games, but they have won five of their last six after scoring five runs in their previous game.

Cleveland

The Indians have won six straight at home and 22 of their last 29 overall.

Prediction:

The Indians are rolling along and they send Plutko to the mound today. He is in a bit of a funk, allowing 10 runs over his last two outings against the Orioles and Tigers. Junis has actually gone seven innings in each of his last two starts and given up just three runs in those two games. KC was playing well, but those were against bad teams. They were overwhelmed by a hot Cleveland team on Friday. Even though the recent pitching trends favor the Royals, I am going to stick with the Indians at home while they are hot. KC’s bullpen or hitting could disappear quickly.

MLB Prediction: Cleveland Indians -165
