Sean Manaea took the loss on Thursday after allowing four runs on nine hits over five innings to the Rangers. The southpaw did strike out six batters thanks to a fantastic 43 percent whiff rate on his sinker, which accounted for 71 percent of Manaea's arsenal versus the Rangers. The 29-year-old would no doubt have preferred a stronger performance against one of the worst offenses in the league against left-handed pitchers but sometimes things do not go as planned in baseball. Manaea will carry a 3.13 ERA and 1.24 WHIP into his next outing which is scheduled to take place against the Astros in Houston.

Houston Astros DFS Spin

Luis Garcia allowed four runs over four innings on Wednesday and took the loss as the Astros fell to the Orioles. The 24-year-old pitched better than the stat line would suggest, striking out five while generating a 37 percent whiff rate. The umpires did Garcia no favors as well. There was one particular at-bat where Garcia surrendered a walk to Orioles slugger Trey Mancini despite throwing seven strikes and zero balls. The Astros right-hander now carries a 3.14 ERA and 1.12 WHIP over 80 1/3 frames with 90 strikeouts. Garcia will take on the Athletics next week in Houston.

The A’s are now 3-9 in their last 12 games versus the Astros following their 9-6 loss in Houston last night. They’re also now 0-5 in their last five road games versus a right-handed starter, are 1-5 in their last five games as an underdog and are 1-8 in their last nine games versus a right-handed starter. The Astros, meanwhile, are 35-17 in their last 52 games overall, are 127-60 in their last 187 home games and are 38-17 in their last 55 games as a favorite.
