St. Louis Cardinals Fantasy Spin
Paul Goldschmidt went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and four RBI in the Cardinals loss to the Giants on Saturday. Goldschmidt put the Cardinals on the board with a line-drive single to left field in the opening frame before capping off the solid performance with a three-run tater -- his 16th round-tripper of the season -- to right field off Giants lefty reliever Tony Watson in the eighth. It's been a disappointing campaign for the 31-year-old slugger, but he seems to be heating up at an optimal time. He owns a six-game hit streak and has now homered in back-to-back games. It wouldn't be shocking to see him rip off a two-month vintage Goldschmidt second-half run.
San Francisco Giants Fantasy Spin
Austin Slater crushed a pinch-hit, go-ahead grand slam to lift the Giants to an 8-4 victory over the Cardinals on Saturday. Slater came off the bench to slice a go-ahead grand-slam over the wall in the right-field corner off Cardinals starter Miles Mikolas in the fourth inning. It was his first career grand slam and his second round-tripper already since being recalled from Triple-A Sacramento earlier this week. The 26-year-old outfielder is worthy of a speculative pickup in deeper mixed leagues thanks to his stellar contact-oriented approach and a massive uptick -- a career-high 14 long balls in 74 games between Triple-A and the big-leagues --- in over-the-fence pop this season.
MLB Betting Trends
St. Louis
Despite losing last night, the Cardinals are still 4-1 in their last five meetings with the Giants.
San Francisco
The Giants are winless at 0-5 in Samardzija’s last five starts at home.
Prediction:
Even though the over is 6-0 in the last six meetings between these two teams, I see both offenses struggling on Sunday. The under is 4-0 in Samardzija’s last four starts versus the Cardinals and is 4-1 in Flaherty’s last five starts coming off four days of rest. Flaherty has struggled with the long ball this season but Oracle Park should suppress the power that he allows today and the Giants don’t have much pop in their lineup as it is. While the Cardinals have an average bullpen, the Giants have an underrated set of relievers so even after both starters exit, the scoring should be held in check in the second half today.
The Pick: Cardinals/Giants UNDER 8
