Royals get shutout

Despite a 7-4 win on Friday, Kansas City couldn’t follow that up with a win on Saturday, suffering a 6-0 loss. KC is 30-60 on the season, 14-32 on the road and 45-40 with the over. Jakob Junis is getting the start for the Royals this afternoon. He is 4-8 on the season with a 5.53 ERA.

The Royals were held to just six hits on Saturday, with just one extra base hit. Alex Gordon was the lone KC player with multiple hits and he had the lone double for the team. Glenn Sparkman wasn’t awful on the mound, but allowed four runs on nine hits over six innings to fall to 2-5 on the season.

Nationals bounce back

Washington has won five of its last six games thanks to Saturday’s 6-0 win over the Royals. The Nationals are 46-42 overall, 25-20 at home and 43-39 with the over. Washington has Patrick Corbin getting the start this afternoon. He is 7-5 on the year with a 3.55 ERA.

Max Scherzer had another impressive outing on Saturday, fanning 11 Royals over seven innings while allowing just four hits and no runs. Scherzer improves to 9-5 on the season with the win. The Washington bullpen followed with two scoreless innings. At the plate, Kurt Suzuki had a home run and two RBI to lead the Nats while Juan Soto had two hits and two RBI.

MLB Betting Trends

Kansas City

The Royals are 21-51 in their last 72 road games and 15-45 in their last 60 road games against a winning team.

Washington

The Nationals are 9-2 in their last 11 games overall and 5-1 in their last six Sunday games.

Prediction:

The Nats are just playing really good baseball right now. Their hitting is doing enough to help an already solid pitching staff. Today the National hitters get to face Junis, who has been struggling as of late. He has given up 11 runs over his last two starts against Cleveland, a pretty average lineup. Look for Washington to hit well at home today while Corbin continues his upward trend against a really bad KC team. Corbin has had three straight 7-inning, 1-run outings. It could be four straight today.

MLB Prediction: Washington Nationals -1.5 (-125)
