Indians take opener

Cleveland has won back-to-back games thanks to a 9-5 win at Kansas City in the season opener on Tuesday. The Indians are 46-38 on the season, 21-20 on the road and 46-36 with the under. Mike Clevinger gets the start for Cleveland tonight. He is 1-2 on the season with a 5.89 ERA.

Cleveland put up five runs in the third inning to really take control on Tuesday night. The Tribe scored their nine runs on 13 hits, none of which were home runs. Both Jake Bauers and Tyler Naquin each had four hits to lead the Tribe at the plate. Bauers also drove in three runs. On the mound, Trevor Bauer gave up five runs over six innings, but he still got his seventh win. The Cleveland bullpen threw four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit.

Royals fall again

Kansas City has suffered five losses in six games following the loss to Cleveland on Tuesday. KC is now 29-57 on the season, 16-26 at home and 43-38 with the over. The Royals have Danny Duffy getting the start today. He is 3-4 on the year with a 4.43 ERA.

The Royals didn’t get off to a good start on Tuesday, as Jake Junis gave up seven runs over 4.2 innings. He fell to 4-8 on the year with the loss. At the plate, Jorge Soler connected on his 23rd home run of the season. Both he and Alex Gordon each had two hits and a RBI while Adalberto Mondessi drove in three runs.

MLB Betting Trends

Cleveland

The Indians are 9-1 in their last 10 division games and 8-2 in their last 10 games against a left-handed starter.

Kansas City

The Royals are 6-13 in their last 19 home games and 2-5 in their last seven division games.

Prediction:

The Indians were able to overcome some poor pitching on Tuesday with their hitting, but that’s not a common theme for them. Cleveland needs to win with pitching more than its unreliable hitting. Clevinger has really not looked good since returning to injury. In two starts, he has given up 12 runs over 6.1 innings. That includes seven to the Baltimore Orioles, who are a really poor lineup. It’s going to be hard for me to trust Cleveland to win until I see Clevinger have a good start. Duffy isn’t great, but he has been pretty consistent about keeping KC in games. I like the Royals to jump on Clevinger and then for the KC arms to do enough to keep Cleveland from catching up.

MLB Prediction: Kansas City Royals +145
