Royals drop opener

Kansas City lost the opener of this series on Friday, 6-2. The Royals have lost five of their last seven games. KC is 28-54 on the season, 12-29 on the road and 39-38 with the over. Homer Bailey is getting the start today for KC. He is 7-6 on the season with a 4.61 ERA.

KC had another rough day at the plate, scoring just two runs on nine hits. The Royals left eight runners on base. Danny Duffy didn’t pitch poorly, allowing three runs on 6.2 innings, but he took the loss to fall to 3-4 on the season. Alex Gordon and Martin Maldonado each had three hits and a RBI to lead the Royals at the plate.

Blue Jays end skid

Toronto had its three-game losing streak come to an end on Friday night in a 6-2 victory over the Royals. The Jays are 30-52 on the season, 14-25 at home and 40-39 with the over. Toronto has Marcus Stroman getting the start this afternoon. He is 5-9 on the season with a 3.04 ERA.

The Blue Jays had four home runs in the win on Friday. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had two home runs and drove in three runs in the win while Randal Grichuk had a home run and drove in two runs. Sean Reid-Foley got the start and lasted 5.1 innings, allowing two runs, but didn’t get a decision. Daniel Hudson got the win in relief, pitching 1.1 innings to improve to 4-2 on the year.

MLB Betting Trends

Kansas City

The Royals are 1-10 in their last 11 games on astroturf, but they have won Bailey’s last four starts.

Toronto

The Blue Jays are just 3-13 in their last 16 games following a win and 1-8 in their last nine home games against a right-handed starter.

Prediction:

Bailey is on a roll right now, allowing just one run over his last 19 innings of work. He faces off with a solid starter in Stroman, who has a terrible record because the Jays never give him run support. I am going to play the trends right now and say the Royals remain hot when Bailey is on the mound while the Jays continue to disappoint Stroman.

MLB Prediction: Kansas City Royals +150
