Braves drop opener

Atlanta dropped the opener of the series on Friday in a 4-3 loss to the Nationals. Atlanta is 44-32 on the season, 20-15 on the road and 43-30 with the over. Mike Foltynewicz gets the start for the Braves today. He is 2-5 on the season with a 5.53 ERA.

The Braves actually got out to a 3-0 lead on Friday, but saw it disappear quickly. Dallas Keuchel made his debut with the team and allowed the four runs over five innings of work to take the loss. At the plate, Austin Riley had a two-run home run to lead Atlanta in the win while Freddie Freeman drove in the other run. Josh Donaldson was the lone Brave with multiple hits.

Nats win fifth straight

Washington is one of its top win streaks of the season, winning five straight games thanks to Friday’s victory. The Nationals are 37-38 on the season, 21-17 at home and 38-32 with the over. Washington has Anibal Sanchez on the mound today. He is 3-6 on the season with a 3.84 ERA.

Stephen Strasburg started off slow, but settled in to pitch six innings on Friday. He got his eighth win of the year, allowing three runs on five hits with five strikeouts. Wander Suero got his first save of the year with a scoreless ninth. Yan Gomes hit a solo home run in the win while Juan Soto had two hits and scored a run.

MLB Betting Trends

Atlanta

The Braves are 9-2 in their last 11 against a team with a losing record and 12-5 in their last 17 road games.

Washington

The Nationals have won six straight against NL East opponents and Sanchez’ last five starts.

Prediction:

Sanchez hasn’t been great at getting deep into games due to some high walk counts, but he is rolling right now. He has given up just four earned runs over his last 24.2 innings of work. That includes just four walks. Foltynewicz has struggled as of late, allowing at least three runs in eight of his last 10 starts. Atlanta is also just 3-7 in his 10 starts. Look for Washington to stay hot at the plate while Sanchez continues his hot streak against the Braves.

MLB Prediction: Washington Nationals -120
