Indians trying to heat up
Cleveland is coming off a loss at home to the Reds on Wednesday, but they have won five of their last eight to get over the .500 mark. The Tribe are 34-33 on the season, 14-16 on the road and 39-27 with the under. Cleveland has Adam Plutko making the start tonight. He is 2-1 on the season with a 5.19 ERA.
The Indians are one of the top pitching staffs in the league, posting a 3.99 team ERA this season with a 1.24 team WHIP. Cleveland is averaging 4.10 runs per game while hitting .226 as a team. Carlos Santana is leading the team this season with 13 doubles, 14 home runs and 42 RBI. Francisco Lindor is adding 10 doubles, 11 home runs and 24 RBI.
Tigers can’t get on track
Detroit is coming off a 7-3 loss at Kansas City last night for a sixth loss in eight games. The Tigers are now 25-40 on the season, 11-21 at home and 34-27 with the under. Detroit has Ryan Carpenter getting the start tonight. He is 1-3 on the season with a 7.89 ERA.
The Tigers are one of the worst offenses in the league, as they average just 3.53 runs per game while hitting only .231 as a team. On the mound, Detroit has a 4.81 team ERA with a 1.39 team WHIP. Nicholas Castellanos is leading the team with 21 doubles, three triples, seven home runs and 24 RBI. Miguel Cabrera is adding 10 doubles, three home runs and 28 RBI.
MLB Betting Trends
Cleveland
The Indians have won five straight following a day off and five of their last six against a left-handed starter.
Detroit
The Tigers are just 17-36 in their last 53 home games and 3-8 in their last 11 series openers.
Prediction:
Plutko has only made three starts over the last month. Two were good and one was awful. He is still finding his footing this year, but he could get it today against a really poor Detroit lineup. Ryan Carpenter has three starts where he has given up at least six runs and he has given up multiple runs in all six of his appearances this year. Detroit doesn’t have the hitting, and their pitching can be pretty suspect as well. I like Cleveland to grab the opener.
MLB Prediction: Cleveland Indians -150
