St. Louis Cardinals Fantasy Spin
Marcell Ozuna went 3-for-4 and scored the Cardinals' lone run in Sunday night's loss to the Cubs in Chicago. All three of Ozuna's hits were singles. After singling in his first at-bat, he advanced to second on a throwing error, was sacrificed to third then scampered homeon an RBI double by Kolten Wong. That would wind up being the extent of the Cardinals' offense though. With the three-hit attack, Ozuna is now slashing .259/.329/.530 with 17 homers and 54 RBI. His RBI total trails only Josh Bell and Nolan Arenado in all of Major League Baseball.
Miami Marlins Fantasy Spin
Austin Dean went 3-for-4 with a solo homer, three RBI and a pair of runs scored in the Marlins' loss to the Braves in extra-innings on Sunday. Dean kicked off the contest with a leadoff homer -- his second long ball of the season -- against Braves’ starter Max Fried. It was his first round-tripper since April 13. He also plated runs with RBI singles in the fifth and seventh innings, respectively, before being lifted as part of a double switch in the eighth. The 25-year-old outfielder has absolutely destroyed Triple-A pitching this season, but owns an uninspiring .219/.227/.391 triple-slash line with six runs scored and 10 RBI across - plate appearances at the big-league level. There’s some promise here and he’s worthy of a speculative addition in deeper mixed leagues and NL-Only formats, but he hasn’t proven that he can handle major-league pitching in limited exposure over the last two seasons.
MLB Betting Trends
St. Louis
The Cardinals have dropped four of their last five overall and are 3-13 in their last 16 road games.
Miami
The Marlins have lost four straight and are just 3-7 in Sandy Alcantara’s last 10 starts.
Prediction:
Both of these teams are struggling but at least over the past few weeks, the Marlins have shown signs of life offensively. The Cardinals have been dreadful with the bats, including over the weekend when they were swept by the Cubs. They’re 3-9 in their last 12 road games versus a right-handed starter and have lost five of Michael Wacha’s last seven starts following a loss in their previous game. Alcantara gets to face the team that drafted him and I like him at home against a struggling lineup, more than Wacha, who got his rotation spot back for no reason.
Monday MLB Prediction: Miami Marlins +124
