St. Louis Cardinals Fantasy Spin
Paul DeJong hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to propel the Cardinals past the Reds 3-1 on Thursday. DeJong's homer off Michael Lorenzen broke a 1-1 tie. It was his first homer since May 18 and ninth overall. He's still mired in a 4-for-44 slump that's dropped his average from .320 to .275.
Chicago Cubs Fantasy Spin
Cole Hamels allowed an unearned run over seven innings in a loss to the Cardinals on Sunday. Hamels struck out four batters and also issued a pair of walks. It was a much-needed bounce-back performance after a disastrous outing against the Astros earlier this week. A fifth-inning sacrifice fly from Kolten Wong, after a throwing error enabled Jedd Gyorko to advance to third base, represented the lone tally against him in this one. The 35-year-old southpaw will carry a 3.62 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 64/28 K/BB ratio into a rematch against the Cardinals on Friday.
