Indians edged again

Cleveland suffered a second consecutive 1-run loss to the Athletics on Saturday. After losing 4-3 in 12 innings on Friday, the Tribe suffered a 3-2 loss on Saturday. The Indians are now 20-18 on the season, 9-11 on the road and 22-15 with the under. Cleveland is putting Jefry Rodriguez on the mound today. He is 0-2 on the season with a 2.41 ERA.

The Indians gave up another walk-off hit on Saturday, as A.J. Cole allowed the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth. Trevor Bauer had an impressive start in the loss, racking up 10 strikeouts in seven innings without giving up an earned run. The Tribe continue to struggle with scoring runs as they had 10 hits but stranded nine baserunners. Leonys Martin drove in both runs for Cleveland, one on a solo home run.

Athletics gaining steam

Oakland has now won four of its last five following Saturday’s victory. Three of the four wins have been by one run. The A’s are now 19-22 on the season, 14-9 at home and 21-20 with the over. Oakland has Daniel Mengden making his 2019 debut on the mound in today’s game.

Blake Treinen blew a save opportunity in the top of the ninth for Oakland, but ended up getting the win anyway when Ramon Laureano had a RBI single in the bottom of the inning to get the victory. Oakland managed to produce the three runs on just four hits thanks to two Cleveland errors. Nick Hundley was the only Oakland player with an extra-base hit, as he tripled in the win.

Prediction:

Oakland has been great at home over the last year and they will see what they have in Mengden today. He hasn’t pitched this year and is coming off a 2018 where he went 7-6 with a 4.05 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 25 starts. Rodriguez has pitched pretty well in his three starts, getting deep into games with limited damage. However, Cleveland just hasn’t had the hitting to make you trust them. Oakland is all about grinding out wins in low-scoring games. Especially at home. I think the Athletics will be able to finish off the sweep behind more solid pitching and timely hitting.
