Philadelphia Phillies Fantasy Spin
Bryce Harper struck out twice in a hitless effort Wednesday in a win over St. Louis. Another day, another 0-for for the Phillies’ $330-million investment. It’s been a lean month for Harper, who has limped to a .192 average with nine strikeouts in 26 May at-bats. Harper is still getting on base at a high clip—he’s tied for third in the majors with 27 walks—but he’s also struck out a ton (third in MLB with 47 punch-outs) while faltering to a career-worst .231 average. There’s probably a light at the tunnel—Harper has weathered more than his share of slow starts—but fantasy owners were obviously expecting much more from the former MVP.
Kansas City Royals Fantasy Spin
Whit Merrifield had a monster night Tuesday, finishing 4-for-5 with a grand slam, five RBI and three runs scored in the Royals' 12-2 romp over the Astros. Merrifield yanked a triple to the left-center field wall to lead off the third inning, pushed an RBI single through the right side of a shifted infield in the fourth inning, knocked another single in the sixth and launched his first career grand slam in the seventh inning for good measure. Oh, and he also stole a base as well. The multi-talented 30-year-old now has six homers and seven steals on the year, batting .299/.351/.545 with 19 RBI and 30 runs scored atop the Royals lineup. Hard to imagine this stud was a relative unknown just a few years ago

Prediction:
The over is 5-2 in the last seven meetings between these two clubs and tonight’s game offers plenty of scoring potential with the Phillies set to face Homer Bailey. The over is 9-3-1 in the Royals’ last 13 home games versus an opponent with a winning record and is 3-1-1 in their last five games versus a right-handed starter. The over is also 6-2 in the Phillies’ last eight games coming off a day off and is 11-5 in their last 16 games versus the American League Central.
