Angels take opener
The Los Angeles Angels opened the series on Tuesday with a 5-2 win at Detroit. They have won four straight against the Tigers, dating back to last season. The Angels are 16-19 on the season, 5-10 on the road and 20-15 with the under. Los Angeles has Tyler Skaggs getting the start tonight. He is 3-2 on the season with a 3.12 ERA.
Los Angeles put up three runs in the third inning on Tuesday and didn’t look back. Andrelton Simmons had two hits and drove in two runs to lead the Angels at the plate. The team activated Shohei Ohtani on Tuesday, but he was 0 for 4 from the plate. He did drive in a run. Griffin Canning got the start on Tuesday. He went 5.1 innings and struck out seven to earn his first win. Hansel Robles got his third save with a scoreless ninth.
Tigers fail to win back-to-back
Detroit failed to win consecutive games once again on Tuesday. They haven’t done that since April 23. Detroit is 15-17 on the season, 8-7 at home and 19-13 with the under. The Tigers are putting Matthew Boyd on the mound tonight. He is 3-2 on the season with a 3.05 ERA.
Daniel Norris struggled on the mound Tuesday, giving up three runs over five innings on five hits. Norris took his first loss of the year. The Tigers had just five hits at the plate in the loss. Miguel Cabrera had two of those hits and drove in a run. Nicholas Castellanos tripled and drove in a run as well.
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The Angels are 9-1 in their last 10 against AL Central opponents, but just 5-15 in their last 20 road games.
Detroit
The Tigers are just 1-6 in their last seven against a left-handed starter and 3-7 in their last 10 overall.
Prediction:
Skaggs hasn’t gotten too deep into games, but he also hasn’t given up much damage in his starts. Boyd is similar, but has a history of getting deeper into games. He has went at least seven innings in three of his last four outings. I trust Boyd a little more than Skaggs, especially at home and with a better bullpen. Detroit doesn’t have great hitting, but they have been good at bouncing back from a loss.
MLB Prediction: Detroit Tigers -105
