Ryder Cup Free Pick
PERTSHIRE, SCOTLAND (TheSpread) – The 2014 Ryder Cup starts early morning on Friday from Scotland. Here is a look at our free pick for this event.
The Ryder Cup is a team event that is played over three days between the United State and Europe, with each team comprised of 12 golfers and a captain. This year’s event will be held at PGA Centenary Course in Scotland. The first two days feature teams competing for 8 points each day. Four points coming in foursomes matches and four coming in fourball matches. On Sunday, the final day, 12 singles matches are played, each one being worth a point. The team that scores the most points wins. In the event of a tie, the defending champ, Europe, retains the Ryder Cup.
According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, Europe is the favorite to win this event, as it has odds of -180 to prevail, while the United States has been given a money line of +160 to win. The odds of a draw have been set at +1400.
RYDER CUP FREE PICK: In the past, the United States has fielded a team that many would expect to win this event, but this year’s event features perhaps the strongest European team in history. Led by Rory McIlroy, the European team is stacked and facing a U.S. team that lacks its biggest star in Tiger Woods. While the Americans have some strong talent, they don’t match the depth of Europe. With this event also being on European territory, it would be hard to see the Americans winning this weekend. Look for Europe to win, and to win somewhat comfortably.
2014 RYDER CUP FREE PICK: Europe -180
