Tour Championship Picks
ATLANTA, GA (TheSpread) – The 2011 PGA Tour Championship gets started on Thursday and we have a few suggested plays for this tournament.
My pick to win the event this weekend is Luke Donald. According to oddsmakers, Donald has 13/2 odds to win the tournament. Donald has been getting close to winning a number of tournaments as of late and this is the week I see him finally finishing things off. He finished second in this tournament last year and has a streak of six-straight top 20’s. I think he closes out this tournament and wins the FedEx Cup.
In terms of matchups, I like KJ Choi (-115) over Geoff Ogilvy (-115). Choi placed seventh in this tournament last year and he has been near the top 10 of the world rankings all year. Ogilvy had to finish third last week just to make this tournament. It was his first top 10 in his last five fights, which also included two missed cuts in that time. Ogilvy hasn’t proven he can steadily contend in these competitive fields and I see Choi finishing better.
Another matchup I like is Adam Scott (-115) over Jason Day (-115). Scott has been pretty steady all year. He has finished in the top 10 in four of his last seven tournaments and he won this event back in 2006. Scott has a shot to win the FedEx Cup in this tournament, so I expect him to be at his best. Day has been somewhat inconsistent to end the year, finishing outside the top 10 in three of his last four events. Day was on the back half of the field in this tournament a year ago.
