(The Spread) – Even though he hasn’t won a tournament since September of 2009, Tiger Woods is favored to win The Players Championship this weekend.

The last time Tiger collected a victory was on September 13, 2009 at the BMW Championship when he bested Jim Furyk and Marc Leishman. Since then, personal issues and poor play has tormented Tiger into the worst slump of his professional career.

But clearly he hasn’t fallen out of favor with the public and therefore, oddsmakers as well. According to online sports book Bodog.com, Woods is a 14/1 favorite to win The Players Championship this year. Phil Mickelson is listed right behind Tiger at 16/1 to win, as is Luke Donald.

You’d have to go all the way back to 2001 when Woods last won The Players Championship. Tim Clark won the tournament last year, while Henrik Stenson won it the year before. Sergio Garcia won it in 2008, Phil Mickelson won it in 2007 and Stephen Ames won it in 2006.

A quick look at the odds reveal that Martin Kaymer is 30/1 to win this year’s tournament, while Adam Scott is 33/1. Jim Furyk is also 33/1, as is Matt Kuchar and Nick Watney. A host of players are 40/1 to win The Players Championship this year, including Ben Crane, Bubba Watson and Dustin Johnson.

The 2011 The Players Championship will be played at TPC at Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. It begins May 12 and will conclude on May 15. It can be seen on NBC and heard on SIRIUS-XM Golf.
