Affliction Trilogy Betting Odds

Affliction Trilogy is the third installment from the Affliction clothing line’s attempt to provide competition for the Ultimate Fighting Championship in Mixed Martial Arts.

Affliction Trilogy takes place Saturday, Aug. 1 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., and has six featured bouts.

Bet on Affliction Trilogy

WAMMA Heavyweight Championship

The event’s main event is the World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts Heavyweight Championship fight between champion Fedor Emelianenko (30-1) and challenger Josh Barnett (24-5). Emelianenko is a 1/5 favorite for the fight at +500 according to the online sports book SPORTSBETTING, due to his 10-fight winning streak, including his two wins with Affliction, where he knocked out Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski in the first round of each fight. This is the first meeting between these two, who are regarded by some as the top two heavyweights in the world. Barnett has won his last four fights, including stoppage wins over Pedro Rizzo and Gilbert Yvel in the previous Affliction shows. Barnett has been defeated by Antonio Nogueira and Mirko CroCop, who have both been beaten by Emelianenko. Barnett comes into the fight at +350.

Light-Heavyweight bout

In the show’s other feature fight, light heavyweights Gegard Mousasi (25-2-1) and Renato “Babalu” Sobral (32-8). Mousasi is a slight favorite at -160 to Sobral coming in at +130. Mousasi has won his last 12 fights and is the Dream Middleweight champion. Mousasi’s latest victory was an impressive submission win over the larger Mark Hunt in 1:19 seconds. Sobral has won his last five fights following back-to-back losses while in the UFC to Chuck Liddell and Jason Lambert. Sobral is the Strikeforce Light Heavyweight champion following his TKO win over Bobby Southworth. Sobral has defeated Mike Whitehead and Sokoudjou in his two prior Affliction bouts.

Middleweight bout

Another highlighted fight is between middleweights Jorge Santiago (21-7) and Vitor Belfort (18-8). Belfort is the favorite at -240 to Santiago at +190. Belfort has won his last five fights, including two devastating knockouts over Terry Martin and Matt Lindland. His most recent losses come against some of the top light heavyweights in the world, which prompted Belfort to move down in weight, where he has quickly emerged as one of the top 185-pound fighters in the world. Santiago is the Sengoku Middleweight champion after beating Kazuo Misaki in January by choke. Santiago is on a nine-fight winning streak, including winning the Sengoku and Strikeforce Middleweight Grand Prix. The winning streak came off back-to-back UFC losses to Alan Belcher and Chris Leben, but all nine of his wins have been by stoppage.

Affliction cancels entire Aug. 1 MMA fight card

Affliction Entertainment announced Friday its Aug. 1 “Trilogy” fight card has been cancelled.

The MMA event, scheduled for broadcast on pay-per-view, was cast into doubt when heavyweight Josh Barnett tested positive for steroids and was pulled from the main event. The headlining fight between Barnett and top-ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko was scratched, but it was hoped the card could be saved by finding a last-second replacement or swapping around fights.

No such luck for Affliction.

The company was unable to “find a replacement and adequately promote the new main event," it said in a release.

Looks like the whole operation folded.

Wonder how much this fuck up cost? Josh Barnett better watch his back, I bet there are a lot of people not too happy with him right now
