SEATTLE STORM AT LAS VEGAS ACES | 8/31 | 10 P.M. ET

Storm +5.5
Over 169.5

Seattle got the semifinals started with an upset win in Las Vegas, and the sportsbooks seem to be counting on a bounce-back effort by the Aces. Despite the line for Game 1 closing at Aces -5.5, the opening line for Game 2 was Aces -6.5.

Will Las Vegas have extra motivation to avoid heading to Seattle in an 0-2 hole? Yes. Is there evidence to suggest that that motivation will be enough to cover an even higher spread, especially with the possibility of Seattle's Gabby Williams returning from injury? No.

The Storm were able to pull out the win on a subpar shooting night, making just five of their 22 shots from 3-point range. While the Aces only shot a little better at 6-for-23, that's more of a reason to trust the process with the Over than it is to stick with Las Vegas.

This one promises to be a series for the ages, with the only two realistic MVP candidates going toe-to-toe and seven No. 1 draft picks among the 10 starters.

ANALYSIS: Trevor Rogers is expected to come off the IL to make this start and he has been terrible this season. He also doesn’t get deep in games. The Marlins bullpen is ranked 21st since the trade deadline while the Rays bullpen is ranked 6th. Drew Rasmussen is 4-1 with a 1.89 ERA in his last seven starts, that will be tough for a Marlins team that has the worst wOBA in the league since the trade deadline. The Rays are 17-9 since the deadline while the Marlins are dead last in the league at 8-18. Take the Rays to stay hot.

MINNESOTA -125
ANALYSIS: For a while, the Red Sox were fighting to stay above .500 while they waited for their rotation to come alive. RHP Michael Wacha has done so, winning his last three starts, but the rest of the team is flat. The weak body language is too visible. They’re not showing the "Boston Pride." They’re now six games below .500 and riding a three-game losing streak. Look for the Twins to post their sixth consecutive victory.

MLB | SAN DIEGO @ SAN FRANCISCO | 08/31 | 3:45 PM EDT
SAN DIEGO -135
ANALYSIS: Alex Wood has an 8.53 ERA this month and now faces a Padres team that's hitting lefties well lately. San Diego has won two nailbiters in this series already and sends Joe Musgrove out for the sweep. While Musgrove has cooled off after a brilliant start, he loves facing the Giants. This is his fourth start against them this season. In each of the first three, he went exactly seven innings. In those 21 innings, he allowed 11 hits and compiled a 0.43 ERA. Look for San Diego to win its sixth straight at Oracle Park.

ANALYSIS: Texas’ LHP Martin Perez has been a little shaky since the All-Star break, however he’s 4-2 at home with a 2.60 ERA. In his last outing in Houston, he gave up seven runs in five innings of work. Houston’s RHP Cristian Javier has given up five earned runs in 17 innings in three starts this season against the Rangers. However, he’s backed by the league's best bullpen, which has pitched to a 2.96 ERA. The Astros rank 5th in wRC+ (112), while the Rangers are 13th (102). I like the Astros.

L.A. DODGERS +130
ANALYSIS: Jacob deGrom's stuff looks as amazing as it ever has and he's posting sick numbers this season. I'm also going to bet against his team here. He hasn't yet gone a full seven innings and I'm not expecting it to happen here. Closer Edwin Diaz can only do so much in relief. I expect the Dodgers' relentless offense to do some work either against deGrom in the middle innings or against the underbelly of the bullpen. The Dodgers are 45-10 since June 28, so taking them with underdog odds is just too tasty.

MLB | TAMPA BAY @ MIAMI | 08/31 | 6:40 PM EDT
TAMPA BAY -178
ANALYSIS: The Marlins have been terrible for a bit. Going back to July 5, they've gone 16-34. Right now, they've lost five of six. They have won only eight of their last 30 games. Starting pitcher Trevor Rogers has been pretty bad this season overall, too. The Rays here are a contrast. Starter Drew Rasmussen has been dominant, posting a 2.05 ERA in his last 10 starts, eight of which have been Rays wins. The Rays have won 13 of their last 17 overall.

MLB | SAN DIEGO @ SAN FRANCISCO | 08/31 | 3:45 PM EDT
SAN DIEGO -145
ANALYSIS: The Giants have lost six straight and 10 of 12. Five of those 10 losses in this stretch have come by one run, so one might be inclined to argue that they are due to turn it around. I'm not. They are just a bad team right now. Padres starter Joe Musgrove has a 0.43 ERA in three starts against the Giants this year, too. On the other side, Giants starter Alex Wood has an 8.53 ERA in six starts this month. His lone good outing came against these Padres, so we're hoping that was a total outlier. I'm betting it was.

MLB | HOUSTON @ TEXAS | 08/31 | 2:05 PM EDT
HOUSTON -140
ANALYSIS: The Astros are the much better team here, as evidenced by them being ahead 24 games in the standings and 11-4 in head-to-head battles this season. They are exponentially better on the road (40-27) than the Rangers are at home (28-37). The odds we get here aren't half bad, though, thanks to All-Star Martin Perez starting for the Rangers. He dominated the Astros twice this season, but last time out the Astros got to him for seven runs in five innings. I love the Astros' side here.

UNDER 7.5
ANALYSIS: These pitchers have done very well against their respective opponents this season. Christian Javier has a 2.65 in 17.0 IP against the Rangers, with the under hitting in all three starts. Martin Perez has been one of the Rangers' best starters, and while he did struggle in his last game against the Astros, his other two starts were excellent. The under is 7-1 this season when these teams have played in Texas and has hit in four straight Astros games.
