Penn State holds off Michigan
Penn State kept its unbeaten season going last Saturday when the Nittany Lions held off Michigan for a 28-21 win at home. PSU is now 7-0 on the year, 4-0 in the Big Ten, 4-3 against the spread and 4-3 with the under.
The Nittany Lions are solid on both sides of the ball this year. The defense is giving up 10 points and 282.1 yards per game, while the offense is putting up 40 points and 441.1 yards per game. Sean Clifford has thrown for 1,742 yards and 16 touchdowns while rushing for 269 yards and three scores. Noah Cain is the leading rusher with 329 yards and six touchdowns while KJ Hamler has 32 receptions for 563 yards and seven touchdowns.
Spartans coming off bye
Michigan State is coming off a bye following a rough 38-0 loss at Wisconsin two weeks ago. The Spartans fell to 4-3 with the loss and they are 2-2 in the Big Ten. MSU is just 2-5 against the spread and 4-3 with the under.
The Spartans are strong on defense this year, but struggling a lot on offense. MSU is giving up just 21 points and 314.7 yards per game, while the offense is putting up 23.9 points and 358.6 yards per game. Brian Lewerke has thrown for 1,596 yards and 11 touchdowns while rushing for 147 yards. Elijah Collins is the leading rusher with 492 yards and three scores, while Darrell Stewart Jr. has 46 receptions for 683 yards and touchdowns. Joe Bachie is leading the Michigan State defense with 66 tackles, 3.5 sacks and an interception.
College Football Betting Trends
Penn State
The Nittany Lions have hit the under in six of their last seven conference games, but have hit the over in seven of their last 10 road games.
Michigan State
The Spartans have hit the under in five straight games in October and in nine of their last 11 conference games.
Prediction:
These two have hit the over in four of their last five meetings, as well as in four straight meetings in East Lansing. Despite that, if Michigan State is going to have a chance to win, it needs the under to hit. The Spartans don’t have the offense to get in a shootout here and I don’t think Penn State will give them much to work with either. The PSU offense could exploit the MSU defense, but I think the Nittany Lions will struggle on the road after a hard-fought win at home last weekend against Michigan.
College Football Week 9 Prediction: Penn State/Michigan State Under 44.5
