Raptors without key pieces
Toronto continues to be short-handed and the Raptors are coming off a 118-102 loss at home to the Celtics on Christmas Day. They also suffered an OT loss at Indiana on Monday. Toronto is 21-10 on the season, 8-6 on the road, 18-13 against the spread and 16-14-1 with the over.
The Raptors are putting up 111.7 points per game on offense this season while shooting 45 percent from the field and 37.1 percent from the arc. Defensively, the Raptors are giving up 106.8 points per game while opponents shoot just 42.2 percent against them. Toronto continues to be without Pascal Siakam, Norman Pwell and Marc Gasol due to injuries. Siakam and Powell combined for nearly 40 points per game. Kyle Lowry is the current leader with 20.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 7.6 assists per contest. Fred VanVleet is adding 18.1 points and 7.0 assists per game.
Celtics on fire
Boston is riding a five-game win streak right now following a 129-117 win at home over Cleveland on Friday evening. They have won their last four by at least 12 points. Boston is now 22-7 on the season, 13-1 at home, 18-9-2 against the spread and 16-13 with the under.
The Celtics are putting up 112 points per game on offense this season while shooting 46 percent as a team and 36 percent from the arc. Defensively, Boston is giving up just 103.7 points per game while limiting opponents to 43.6 percent shooting. Kemba Walker is leading the team with 22.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game. Jaylen Brown is adding 20.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. He is riding back-to-back 30+-point games as well.
NBA Betting Trends
Toronto
The Raptors are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games as a favorite and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games overall.
Boston
The Celtics are 6-1 against the spread in their last seven home games and 12-3 ATS in their last 15 games against a winning team.
Prediction:
Boston has had Toronto’s number this season, winning both meetings by at least six points. I would expect more of the same today. Boston is coming off a game on Friday, but the Raptors are too beat up to be able to compete with the Celtics. Jaylen Brown is really playing well right now and he is coming off a hot game in Toronto on Christmas Day. He should continue to ride that momentum tonight. The Raptors just don’t have the horses to get into an offensive battle with the Celtics right now.
NBA Prediction: Boston Celtics -6
