Nuggets on a tear
The Nuggets have won seven straight coming into tonight, including a 124-118 OT win at Orlando on Wednesday. Denver is 17-7 on the season, 8-4 on the road and 15-9 against the spread and 15-8-1 with the under. The Nuggets have covered the spread in seven straight as well.
A franchise once known for offense, Denver is now led by its defense. The Nuggets allow just 103.4 points per game this year while holding opponents to 31.6 percent from the arc. They also allow the fewest rebounds per game (41.5) in the NBA. Offensively, Denver is averaging 110.8 points per game. Jamal Murray has been leading the way with 17.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game. Nikola Jokic adds 16.5 points, 9.6 rebounds and 7.8 assists per game. Gary Harris, who averages 16.6 points per game, is out tonight due to a hip injury.
Hornets on a skid
Charlotte has lost three straight games, including a 121-104 loss at Minnesota on Wednesday night. The Hornets are 11-13 on the season, 8-5 at home, 14-10 against the spread and 12-12 with the over/under total. Charlotte has failed to cover in three straight as well.
The Hornets are putting up 114.0 points per game on offense this season while giving up 111.2 points per contest. Kemba Walker has been leading the team this season with 26.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 6.1 assists per contest. Jeremy Lamb is adding 15.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per contest. Marvin Williams averages 8.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, but he is out for a few weeks due to a shoulder injury.
NBA Betting Trends
The Nuggets have covered the spread in five straight road games and four of their last five against Eastern Conference opponents.
The Hornets are just 1-4 ATS in their last five against Western Conference opponents and 1-7 ATS in their last eight against Northwest Division opponents.
Denver has been handling this trip East just fine. They already have beaten the Raptors and Magic on the road and I don’t see why they can’t beat the Hornets. Charlotte has dropped three straight and given up at least 119 points in all three games. The Hornets will struggle with the Denver defense, so their defense will have to play well if they hope to win. I don’t see that happening.
NBA Prediction: Denver Nuggets -1
