Dallas suffered a 121-119 loss Sunday night at home versus Portland to drop to 2-1 on the season. The Mavericks gave up the go-ahead basket with 26 seconds to go in the fourth quarter. Kristaps Porzingis led Dallas with 32 points on 11-of-23 shooting including 3-of-10 from 3-point range plus 7-of-10 at the free throw line. He also notched nine rebounds, five assists and two blocked shots. Luka Doncic accounted for 29 points, 12 boards, nine assists and three steals. Maxi Kleber had 14 points, six caroms and three dimes. Seth Curry tallied 12 points, three steals and two assists off the bench. Tim Hardaway Jr. added 11 points in 22 minutes as a reserve.

Nuggets strong in third quarter

Denver outscored host Sacramento 30-17 in the third quarter Monday night after trailing by six at halftime en route to a 101-94 victory. Jamal Murray paced the Nuggets with 18 points on 6 6-of-14 shooting including 2-of-7 from 3-point range plus 7-of-7 at the charity stripe. He also accounted for four rebounds and three assists. Gary Harris tallied 17 points, four boards and two dimes. Will Barton notched 13 points, nine boards and three assists.  Mason Plumlee added 10 points, seven caroms and three assists off the bench.

Dallas has strong chemistry going with the duo of Doncic and Porzingis and will benefit from a day of rest here while the Nuggets are playing on a back-to-back. I like the Mavs' confidence level right now and Denver hasn't exactly been blowing teams out of the water even with rest. Taking the points with the Mavs.
