Mavs cruise to victory
Dallas led big going into the fourth quarter and recorded a 108-100 home win over Washington Wednesday night in its season opener. The Mavericks led 91-68 heading into the fourth quarter before taking their foot off the gas pedal. Luka Doncic paced Dallas with 34 points on 12-of-19 shooting including 4-of-9 from 3-point range plus 6-of-8 at the free throw line to go with nine rebounds, three assists and two steals. Kristaps Porzingis tallied 23 points, four boards and two assists. Justin Jackson had 10 points, four caroms and two assists off the bench. Dorian Finney-Smith added 10 points and eight rebounds as a reserve.
Pelicans falter in OT
New Orleans lost by a score of 130-122 Wednesday night at Toronto in its season opener. The Pelicans were outscored 13-5 in the extra session. Brandon Ingram helped lead the Pelicans with 22 points on 8-of-19 shooting including 2-of-5 from 3-point range and 4-of-4 from the free throw line to go with five rebounds, five assists and two blocked shots. J.J. Redick tallied 16 points and two boards. Jason Hart had a double-double of 15 points and 10 assists off the bench. Nicolo Melli registered 14 points, five rebounds and two dimes as a reserve. Jrue Holiday added 13 points, six assists, four boards and two blocks.
NBA Betting Trends
Dallas
The Mavericks are 4-0-1 ATS in their last five road games. Dallas is 7-19-2 ATS in its last 28 Friday games.
New Orleans
The Pelicans are 8-21 ATS in their last 29 Friday games. New Orleans is 2-9 ATS in its last 11 home games.
Prediction:
Dallas is looking like a much better team this season with the Doncic-Porzingis combo leading the charge. While New Orleans looked good at Toronto, it's a flawed team and missing No. 1 overall pick Zion Williamson. I like the Mavs here as the small dogs as I think the Pelicans have a little bit more chemistry issues that are needed to be worked out on the court with their new pieces. The Mavs need to win against average or mediocre teams on the road if they wish to take a step forward.
