Deep Nuggets squad looks to make run
Denver had a pair of seven-game postseason series as it downed San Antonio in the first round, but lost to tonight's opponent in Portland in the Western Conference Semifinals. The Nuggets can exact a small amount of revenge tonight and propel forward in a season full of promise. Denver is led by versatile center Nikola Jokic and sharpshooting point guard Jamal Murray, while a slew of role players including a healthy Michael Porter Jr. will look to provide a big impact. Porter Jr., last year's first round draft pick, missed the entirety of his first season in the NBA but will try to fit in seamlessly right off the bat. The Nuggets have maybe the best home-court advantage in the NBA and one of the most gifted passing centers to ever grace the NBA. There is no doubt Denver will make some noise this season, but the question is just how much?
Same core leads Trail Blazers
While Portland has changed some pieces among its role players, things will still for the most part go through guards Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum. Center Jusuf Nurkic is sidelined indefintely with a leg injury suffered in the playoffs and will be a huge boost when he returns, but for now you can probably up the usage rate for the two star guards even a little more right now. Among the interesting names brought in is wing Kent Bazemore, who could be the type of explosive bench player the Blazers could use off the bench to take some of the pressure off their stars.
NBA Public Betting Page
Denver
The Nuggets are 22-10-1 in their last 33 games versus the Northwest Division. Denver is 9-4-1 ATS in the last 14 meetings.
Portland
The Trail Blazers are 1-4-1 ATS in their last six home games. Portland is 10-1 ATS in its last 11 Wednesday games.
Prediction:
While the Nuggets are going to have a fanastic season in all likelihood and are a deep team, the Trail Blazers are full of veterans and have a pair of star guards. Portland is also at home where it typically plays very well. A bit surprised the Nuggets are favored by a point as I thought it might go down as a pick'em. I'm going to give the edge to the hosts as they continue where they left off with a nice playoff showing this past summer.
