Davis makes Lakers debut

After proving to be dominant in the preseason, new acquisition Anthony Davis is set for his regular season debut with the Lakers tonight. Davis was one of the best big men in the league when healthy in New Orleans and while LA gave up a king's ranson to trade for him, it could very well be worth it as he teams up with LeBron James and Kyle Kuzma to form one of the NBA's best nucleuses. The Lakers have the second-best odds to win the Western Conference this season, just behind their city rivals and tonight's opponent in the Clippers. With a summer injury knocking free agent signing DeMarcus Cousins out for the season, LA will have its depth tested and must receive contributions from the likes of the occasionally hot-headed Rajon Rondo and the erratic Dwight Howard in order to be a title contender.

Clippers favored to win West

The Clippers struck gold in the offseason as they signed Kawhi Leonard in free agency and shortly thereafter traded for Paul George, giving them two of the most talented players in the NBA as well as perhaps the deepest roster. George is going to miss time at the start of the season as he recovers from a shoulder injury, but Leonard is certainly ready to go after winning an NBA title with the Raptors this past summer. Los Angeles can boast basically two complete rotations of five core players when healthy as its bench consists of very talented parts such as Lou Williams, Montrezl Harrell and JaMychal Green. It's a shame the Clippers aren't completely healthy tonight for this showdown with their rivals, but that time will come soon enough.

Prediction:

Who the home team is considered doesn't really matter in this situation, but I still like the Clippers here. I think they come out with urgency and wanting to make a statement considering the Lakers will have their key players on the floor while the Clippers are without a huge name in George. But the Clippers are still the better defensive team and they have the best basketball player on the floor in my opinion in Leonard, who showed he's good enough to carry a team to a title in his lone season with Toronto. Even without George, there is plenty of help to go around. Bet on the Clips tonight.
