Celtics cruise in season opener

Boston outscored visiting Philadelphia by at least five points in each of the final three quarters Tuesday night to roll to a 105-87 victory in its season opener. Jayson Tatum led the way with 23 points as he shot 9-of-17 from the floor. Tatum added nine rebounds and three assists. Marcus Morris contributed 16 points, 10 rebounds and two steals off the bench. Jaylen Brown contributed 12 points, five rebounds and two assists. Gordon Hayward added 10 points, five rebounds and four assists in 25 minutes after missing last season with a leg injury.

Leonard puts up double-double

Kawhi Leonard tallied 24 points and 12 rebounds in his regular season debut with the Raptors, shooting 9-of-22 from the floor. The Raptors eased to a 116-104 victory in the opener at home over the Cavs. Kyle Lowry had a team-best 27 points along with eight rebounds as he shot 10-of-12 from the floor including 5-of-6 on 3-point attempts. Super sub Fred VanVleet had 14 points and five assists. Pascal Siakim recorded 13 points, two rebounds and two assists. Danny Green added 11 points and five boards.

NBA Betting Trends

Boston

The over is 4-0 in the last four Celtics games on Fridays. Boston is 0-6 ATS in its last six meetings in Toronto.

Toronto

The over is 6-1 in the last seven Raptors home games. The under is 4-1 in the last five meetings in Toronto.

Prediction:

This will be a much tougher matchup for Toronto than Cleveland provided on Wednesday. With an extra day to prepare and a roster that has the pieces to match up well with Toronto, I like Boston's chances to make an early statement here and cover the small spread if not win outright.
