Davis playing at MVP level
The NBA MVP front-runner is probably the Rockets' James Harden, while Cavs star LeBron James is certainly among those who deserves consideration. But point blank, New Orleans is nowhere close to a playoff team without the contributions of Anthony Davis. After playing at an already high level for much of the season, Davis took his game to another stratosphere once DeMarcus Cousins was lost for the season. He is averaging 28.2 points, 11 rebounds, 2.6 blocks, 2.3 assists and 1.5 steals on the season. In New Orleans' current four-game win streak with a playoff berth on the line, Davis has scored no fewer than 28 points in any of the games and has had double digit rebounds totals in all but one. He's also had at least three blocks in all four games. Needless to say, Davis is playing at a super high level as the playoffs approach. San Antonio will have its hands full tonight.
Leonard still a mystery for Spurs
The status of Kawhi Leonard heading into the postseason is still unknown, but San Antonio is operating as though he will not be available. Leonard returned briefly this season but has been shelved for the last several months with a quadricep injury that doesn't appear to be healing very well. There is also the reported rift between Leonard and Spurs management, so there is a chance he is being stubborn and extra careful about his return in order to get his way. But that also doesn't seem to fit the reserved Leonard's personality, so if he is going to miss this much time there must be some legitimacy to the injury. It's just a shame that one of the NBA's premier players has been absent for nearly the entire season.
NBA Betting Trends
San Antonio
The Spurs are 0-6 ATS in their last six games versus a team with a winning home record. San Antonio is 0-6 ATS in its last six road games overall. The over is 4-0 in the last four Spurs road games.
New Orleans
The Pelicans are 4-1 ATS in the last five head-to-head meetings with San Antonio. New Orleans is 6-0 ATS in its last six Wednesday games. The Pelicans are 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall.
Prediction:
It's hard to get past San Antonio's struggles on the road lately. New Orleans has been on a roll and this has a feeling of a game that could get out of hand early, especially if the Spurs don't put a lot of stock into their seed for the playoffs. I'm going to go with the hotter team right now and that is the Pelicans.
