Magic on win streak
Orlando is on a three-game win streak right now following a 116-108 win at Boston on Sunday. The Magic have also covered the spread in all three wins. The Magic are 41-40 on the season, 16-24 on the road, 44-36-1 against the spread and 44-37 with the under. Orlando has secured a playoff spot, but they can finish anywhere from sixth to eighth depending on tonight’s results.
The Magic are a strong defensive team, allowing 106.5 points per game while opponents shoot 45.5 percent from the field. Offensively, Orlando is putting up 107.1 points per game while shooting 45.3 percent as a team. Nikola Vucevic is leading the team with 20.8 points and 12.0 rebounds per game while Aaron Gordon is adding 15.8 points and 7.4 rebounds per contest.
Hornets rolling
Charlotte is on a four-game win streak and five-game cover streak following a 124-97 win at Cleveland last night. The Hornets are now 39-42 on the season, 25-15 at home, 40-40-1 against the spread and 43-36-2 with the over. The Hornets are ninth in the East right now and can only get into the playoffs with a win and a Pistons loss to the Knicks.
The Hornets are putting up 110.7 points per game on offense while shooting just 44.7 percent from the field. Defensively, Charlotte is giving up 111.7 points per game while opponents shoot 46.9 percent against them. Cody Zeller and Tony Parker are both out tonight while Marvin Williams is questionable with a foot injury. Kemba Walker is leading the team with 25.4 points and 5.9 assists per game while Jeremy Lamb is adding 15.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
Orlando
The Magic are 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 conference games, but just 11-23 ATS in their last 34 games when playing on two days of rest.
Charlotte
The Hornets have covered in four straight home games and in six of their last seven following a win.
Prediction:
Both teams have reasons to win tonight, but the Hornets have more urgency. Orlando already has its playoff spot, so the Magic may not want to push any players too hard. Charlotte has to win to have any hope at the postseason. The Pistons have also been shaky as of late, so a loss at New York isn’t out of the question. I expect the Hornets to establish themselves quickly, as they did last night in a dominant win.
NBA Prediction: Charlotte Hornets -4.5
