Nuggets competing for top seed

Denver has won seven of its last eight games coming into tonight, including a 95-92 win over the Pistons on Tuesday night. Denver is ½ a game behind Golden State for the top spot in the West. The Nuggets are now 50-23 on the season, 19-17 on the road, 38-35 against the spread and 42-30-1 with the under.

Denver has a solid defense, allowing just 106.8 points per game while holding opponents to 45.7 percent shooting from the field and 34 percent shooting from the arc. Offensively, the Nuggets are putting up 111.5 points per game while shooting 46.7 percent as a team. Nikola Jokic is leading the team with 20.3 points, 10.8 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game. Jamal Murray is adding 18.1 points and 4.8 assists per contest.

Rockets looking to gain ground

Houston is coming off a 108-94 loss at Milwaukee on Tuesday night to snap a two-game win streak. The Rockets are fourth in the West right now, 4.5 games behind Golden State for first place. Houston is now 47-28 on the season, 27-10 at home, 34-38-3 against the spread and 38-36-1 with the under.

The Rockets are giving up 109.7 points per game on defense this season while opponents shoot 46.9 percent from the field. Offensively, Houston averages 112.9 points per game while shooting 44.6 percent as a team. Eric Gordon is expected to play tonight despite dealing with an ankle injury. James Harden is leading the team with 36.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game while Clint Capela is adding 16.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per contest.

NBA Betting Trends

Denver

The Nuggets are 7-20 against the spread in their last 27 against Southwest Division opponents and 2-6 ATS in their last eight following a win.

Houston

The Rockets are 4-1-2 ATS in their last seven following a failed cover and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five on 1 day of rest.

Prediction:

The Rockets have won two of the three in this series, including the lone road victory this year. Denver certainly is a good team, but the Nuggets haven’t been terribly impressive on the road. Houston is coming off a tough road loss to Milwaukee, but I think that loss will spark a big bounce back today. The Rockets are still trying to make believers out of some and an impressive win at home over Denver will help that cause.

NBA Prediction: Houston Rockets -5
