Pelicans wading in the water

New Orleans is coming off a 125-119 loss on the road to the Lakers on Wednesday. The Pelicans have lost three of their last four, but have covered the spread in three of their last five. New Orleans is 27-36 overall, 9-24 on the road, 30-32-1 against the spread and 34-29 with the over.

New Orleans has been one of the better offensive teams in the league this season, averaging 115.7 points per game while shooting 47.7 percent as a team. Defensively, the Pelicans are giving up 115.1 points per contest while opponents shoot 46.5 percent against them. Anthony Davis is leading the team with 27.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game while Jrue Holiday is adding 21.0 points and 7.9 assists per contest.

Suns end skid

Phoenix put an end to a long losing streak on Monday with a 124-121 win at Miami. The Suns also ended a four-game failed cover streak in the win. Phoenix is 12-50 on the season, 7-22 at home, 26-36 against the spread and 34-28 with the under.

The Suns have one of the worst defenses in the league, giving up 116.2 points per game while opponents shoot 48.4 percent against them. Offensively, Phoenix is putting up 106.2 points per game while shooting 45.7 percent as a team. T.J. Warren is out for tonight’s game with an ankle injury while Devin Booker is questionable with a toe injury. These two are the leading scorers, combining for 42.6 points and 8 rebounds per game. Booker also dishes out 6.7 assists per contest.

NBA Betting Trends

New Orleans

The Pelicans are 6-2 against the spread in their last eight following a loss and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 following a failed cover.

Phoenix

The Suns have covered the spread in five of their last seven following a win, but just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 conference games.

Prediction:

The Pelicans have no motivation to play well, but they still have a far stronger roster than that of Phoenix. The Suns aren’t going to take any chances with Booker, who is still their foundation. If he can’t play, Phoenix is without their top two scorers on an already bad offense. I just don’t see how they can compete with the Pelicans, even if Davis doesn’t play much.

NBA Prediction: New Orleans Pelicans -4.5
