Pelicans continue climb
The Pelicans are coming off a 115-101 win at Golden State on Sunday night for a fifth win and cover in six games. New Orleans is 25-32 on the season, 14-15 on the road, 30-25-2 against the spread and 33-24 with the over.
New Orleans is putting up 116.0 points per game on offense this season while shooting 46.2 percent from the field. Defensively, the Pelicans are giving up 117 points per game while opponents shoot 46.5 percent from the field. Brandon Ingram is averaging 24.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game this season to lead the team. Zion Williamson is adding 22.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per contest.
Lakers win fifth straight
Los Angeles is coming off a 114-112 win at home over Boston on Sunday for a fifth straight win. The Lakers are 3-2 against the spread during this win streak. Los Angeles is now 43-12 on the season, 20-7 at home, 29-25-1 against the spread and 28-27 with the over.
The Lakers are putting up 114.8 points per game on offense while shooting 48.7 percent from the field, which leads the league. Defensively, Los Angeles is giving up 107.4 points per game while opponents are held to 44.7 percent shooting. LeBron James is leading the team with 25.2 points, 10.7 assists and 7.7 rebounds per game. Anthony Davis adds 26.8 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
New Orleans
The Pelicans are 12-3-2 against the spread in their last 17 road games and 10-3-1 ATS in their last 14 games as an underdog.
Los Angeles
The Lakers are 2-7 against the spread in their last nine games playing on 1 day of rest and 5-2 ATS in their last seven home games against a team with a losing road record.
Prediction:
The Lakers have won both meetings with the Pelicans this season, but New Orleans covered in the loss at home and pushed in the loss at Los Angeles. That was a 10-point spread. I like the way the Pelicans have been playing lately, but they have struggled with top offensive teams. They lost at home to the Bucks by 12 and on the road against Houston by eight. Los Angeles should be able to take advantage of New Orleans’ poor defense. While the Pelicans can score, I think Davis will create some problems for their shooting and scoring inside. Zion won’t be able to muscle his way to a big game against Davis.
NBA Prediction: Los Angeles Lakers -7.5
