Public Betting Trends
According to the latest oddsmakers, Boston is favored on the road, as the Celtics are getting odds of -6.5 points against Minnesota. The over/under total for the game is listed at 228.5 points. The public betting currently has 95 percent going on the Celtics as the road favorite. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our NBA Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.
Celtics staying hot
Boston is coming off a nice 141-133 OT win at home over the Clippers before the break. The Celtics have won eight of their last nine games. The Celtics are 38-16 on the season, 15-11 on the road, 32-20-2 against the spread and 30-24 with the under.
The Celtics are giving up just 106.2 points per game this season on defense, while holding opponents to 44.1 percent shooting. Offensively, Boston is putting up 113.1 points per game while shooting 46.3 percent from the field. The Celtics will be without one of their top players, as Kemba Walker is out with a knee injury. Walker joins Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown as 20-point scorers for the team. Tatum leads the way with 22.4 points and 6.9 rebounds per contest.
T’Wolves continue to slide
Minnesota is coming off a 115-108 loss at home to Charlotte before the break. The Timberwolves have dropped nine of their last 10 games and are 1-9 against the spread in their last 10 as well. Minnesota is now 16-37 on the season, 7-20 at home, 18-33-2 against the spread and 29-24 with the over.
The Timberwolves are scoring 112.4 points per game while shooting just 43.7 percent as a team. Defensively, Minnesota is giving up 115.9 points per game this season while opponents shoot 46.9 percent against them. The T’Wolves are without Karl-Anthony Towns tonight due to a wrist injury. Towns is averaging 26.5 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. D’Angelo Russell is newly acquired and is averaging 24 points and eight assists through two games with Minnesota.
NBA Betting Trends
The Celtics are 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games as a favorite and 5-1-1 against the spread in their last seven games playing on three or more days of rest.
The T’Wolves are 6-21-1 against the spread in their last 28 home games and 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games playing on 3 or more days of rest.
The Celtics have had Minnesota’s number, winning and covering in six straight meetings. This will be the first encounter this season, but I see no reason Boston shouldn’t continue the trend. The Celtics are the better team on both sides of the floor. Even without Walker, Boston still has plenty of scoring. The Timberwolves don’t have much to offer, even with Towns in the lineup. With him out, I can’t see Minnesota putting up much of a fight.
NBA Prediction: Boston Celtics -6.5
