Skill Challenge
The 2020 Skills Challenge includes a field of Spencer Dinwiddie, Khris Middleton, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jayson Tatum, Pascal Siakam, Patrick Beverly, Domantas Sabonis and Bam Adebayo. According to oddsmakers, Dinwiddie is the favorite with 3/1 odds to win. Middleton and Gilgeous-Alexander each had 4/1 odds. Tatum and Dinwiddie are both former champions of this event, with Tatum winning in 2019. Dinwiddie didn’t get the chance to defend his 2018 crown. I think he is the favorite for good reason. He has the overall shooting and passing skills to get the job done. I like him over Tatum to grab the crown. 2020 Skills Challenge Prediction: Spencer Dinwiddie 3/1
3-Point Shootout
This year’s 3-point shootout features Duncan Robinson, Davis Bertans, Trae Young, Devin Booker, Joe Harris, Buddy Hield, Devonte’ Graham and Zach Lavine. Oddsmakers have Robinson as the favorite with 3/1 odds, while Bertans is listed with 7/2 odds. Of the field, Hield hits the most 3-pointers per game at 3.8. Bertans, Robinson, Graham and Young are each at 3.5. Robinson has the top percentage at 43.8, while Bertans is at 42.4. Booker is the most experienced member in the event. This will be his fourth contest. Harris is the defending champion. Despite Harris being the defending champion and Robinson being the favorite, I like Booker. He has the experience and can get hot. He won this event two years ago and has the record score of 28. 3-Point Shootout Prediction: Devin Booker 5/1
Slam Dunk Contest
This year’s Slam Dunk Contest has a pretty strong field. Aaron Gordon is favored to win, as he has +140 odds to win. Derrick Jones Jr. is next at +175, while Pat Connaughton has +400 odds and Dwight Howard has +500 odds to win. Howard won this event way back in 2008, but is a sentimental favorite as a Laker that was going to use Kobe Bryant during his performance prior to Kobe’s untimely passing. Gordon has competed in two dunk contests and had the electrifying performance in 2016 against Zach LaVine. Jones Jr. was runner-up in 2017, while Connaughton is competing for the first time. I think the best odds go with Connaughton. He is the new face and could come up with something explosive and different. Howard just seems too old to be able to really put on a show while Gordon and Jones have already competed and probably put their best foot forward. I like Connaughton to come away with the upset. Slam Dunk Contest Prediction: Pat Connaughton +400
