Grizzlies on a cover streak

Memphis is coming off a 99-97 OT loss at Minnesota on Wednesday for its second straight loss. The Grizzlies have managed to cover the spread in three straight coming into today. Memphis is 20-32 on the season, 8-18 on the road, 22-30 against the spread and 32-20 with the under.

The Grizzlies have the top-ranked defense in the league, as they are holding opponents to just 103.8 points per game. However, Memphis also has the worst offense in the league. The Grizzlies are putting up just 100.5 points per game. Rookie forward Jaren Jackson Jr. and guard Mike Conley are both questionable to play tonight. Conley leads the team with 20.2 points and 6.3 assists per game while Jackson averages 13.4 points per contest. Marc Gasol is putting up 15.7 points and 8.6 rebounds per contest.

Hornets can’t get on track

The Charlotte Hornets have alternated wins and losses over their last six and are coming off a 126-94 loss at Boston on Wednesday. Charlotte is now 24-26 on the season, 17-8 at home, 25-25 against the spread and 26-23-1 with the over.

Charlotte ranks 18th in the NBA in both offense and defense. The Hornets are putting up 111.5 points per game while allowing 111.4 per contest. Kemba Walker is leading the team with 24.4 points and 5.6 assists per game while Jeremy Lamb is adding 15 points and 5.6 rebounds per contest.

NBA Betting Trends

Memphis

The Grizzlies are 3-10 against the spread in their last 13 road games and just 2-10 ATS in their last 12 conference games.

Charlotte

The Hornets have covered the spread in four straight against Western Conference games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven home games.

Prediction:

The Grizzlies have little to offer on offense and could be without their leading scorer in Conley. Charlotte has the ability to put up some points behind Walker. He will be the top player on the floor tonight. The Hornets have been solid at home and, while this game could be ugly behind Memphis’ slow tempo, Charlotte should eventually be able to pull away. The Grizzlies aren’t looking to win or go on a hot streak any time soon.

NBA Prediction: Charlotte Hornets -4.5
