Pelicans trying to heat up

New Orleans has been in a pretty good stretch of play as of late. They have won seven of their last 10 games while going 8-1-1 against the spread in that stretch. They are coming off a 123-108 win at home over Chicago on Wednesday. The Pelicans are 13-25 on the season, 6-13 on the road, 17-19-2 against the spread and 20-18 with the over.

The Pelicans are one of the league’s worst defensive teams, allowing 116.7 points per game while opponents shoot 46.7 percent against them. On offense, New Orleans is putting up 113.1 points per game while shooting 44.9 percent as a squad. The Pelicans have some injury issues, as both Jrue Holiday and Kenrich Williams are out with injuries while leader Brandon Ingram is questionable with a finger issue. Ingram and Holiday combined for over 45 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists per game. JJ Redick is averaging 15.8 points per game for New Orleans, while Lonzo Ball adds 12.0 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.5 assists per contest.

Knicks on another skid

New York wrapped up a four-game road trip out west this week, losing all four games while covering in just one. The Knicks are coming off a 128-104 loss at Utah on Wednesday. New York is now 10-28 on the season, 5-12 at home, 19-19 against the spread and 22-16 with the under.

The Knicks are scoring just 104.2 points per game this season while shooting only 43.4 percent as a team. Defensively, New York is giving up 112.3 points per game while opponents shoot 46.2 percent against them. The Knicks will be without Julius Randle tonight for personal reasons while both Dennis Smith Jr. and Marcus Morris Sr. are questionable with injuries. Morris and Randle are the two team leaders as they combined for nearly 40 points and 15 rebounds per game. RJ Barrett is the active team leader with 13.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per contest.

NBA Betting Trends

New Orleans

The Pelicans are 3-0-1 against the spread in their last four road games, but just 3-11-1 ATS in their last 15 games on 1 day of rest.

New York

The Knicks are 9-4 against the spread in their last 13 games playing on 1 day of rest and 5-2 ATS in their last seven Friday games.

Prediction:

Injuries are a factor for both teams and you need to stay updated on who will be in and out tonight. In most cases, I would like the Pelicans. Road games can always lead to letdowns, but the Pelicans seem to be finding their stride as a group of castoffs. They are really playing well on offense and that will be a problem for a New York team that can’t score at a high rate and still doesn’t defend. The Knicks are definitely without their top player as well, which is only going to make things more difficult.

NBA Prediction: New Orleans Pelicans -5.5
