Rays hold off Yankees
After scoring four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning last night to extend its lead to 8-3, Tampa Bay held on for an 8-7 victory after giving up four runs in the top of the ninth. Tommy Pham helped pace the offense as he was 1-for-2 with a solo home run, two walks and two runs. Willy Adames finished 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs. Jake Bauers was 2-for-4 and scored a run. Yonny Chirinos picked up the win in relief as he allowed three hits while striking out three and walking two in four shutout frames. Sergio Romo picked up his 24th save despite getting hit hard as he gave up four earned runs on five hits with one strikeout and one walk over 1 1/1 innings.
Walker homers in defeat
Andrew McCutchen ended the night 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs in last night's loss at the Rays. Aaron Judge finished 2-for-4 with a walk, a run and an RBI. Luke Voit was 3-for-5 and drove in two. Giancarlo Stanton went 1-for-4 with a walk, a run and an RBI. Neil Walker hit a 3-run home run in the first inning, his only hit in three at-bats. Masahiro Tanaka took the loss as he surrendered four runs (three earned) over four innings, striking out four and walking one.
CC Sabathia (8-7, 3.77 ERA) will start today for New York, while Tampa Bay counters with Jaime Schultz (2-1, 4.55).
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The over is 6-2 in the last eight Yankees games overall. New York is 6-2 in Sabathia's last eight Thursday starts.
Tampa Bay
The Rays are 8-2 in their last 10 games following a loss. New York is 9-2 in Sabathia's last 11 starts versus Tampa Bay.
Prediction:
Sabathia is having a solid year and will try to end the regular season with a strong performance, but draws a tough test in the Rays. Check on whether New York will be resting anyone, but since it hasn't clinched home field for the AL Wild Card Game, I'd imagine the regulars all play. The Rays have a seemingly endless supply of pitchers, but they did throw some key arms for a lot of pitches yesterday. I'm going to take New York here based on the pitching matchup and the fact the visitors should be rolling out their starters.
