Vazquez helps power Red Sox
Boston secured a 7-4 victory at Tampa Bay Sunday afternoon to improve to 81-74 overall and 44-33 on the road. Christian Vazquez helped lead the Red Sox offense as he ended the game 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. J.D. Martinez went 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and two RBIs. Rafael Devers finished 1-for-4 with a walk and two runs. Nathan Eovaldi picked up the win as he allowed three earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and two walks over six innings. Jhoulys Chacin draws the start tonight for Boston as he enters with a 4-11 record, 5.66 ERA and 1.55 WHIP plus 93 strikeouts over 97 innings pitched.
Yarbrough hit hard in defeat
Tampa Bay fell by a score of 7-4 Sunday afternoon at home versus Boston to drop to 92-64 overall and 45-33 at home. Ryan Yarbrough took the loss as he gave up six earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and one walk over 3 1/3 innings pitched. Joey Wendle helped lead the Rays offense from the leadoff spot as he went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, two walks and two runs scored. MLB Betting Trends
The Red Sox are 5-2 in their last seven Monday games. Boston is 2-7 in its last nine games versus the AL East.
The Rays are 12-2 in their last 14 home games. Tampa Bay is 5-0 in the last five Snell home starts.
Snell threw only 26 pitches in his first game back from surgery, but it was two scoreless frames and he looks like the pitcher who dominated last season and at times this year before the injury. His pitch count will be boosted some today and I tend to trust the Rays bullpen when they are tasked with bridging a lot of innings. Tampa Bay should get to Chacin enough to support its pitchers. I'm going with the Rays in this spot.
