Nats shut out in series opener

Washington was held to two hits Tuesday night in a 5-0 defeat at Minnesota to drop to 79-64 overall and 38-35 on the road. Howie Kendrick paced the Nationals offense as he went 1-for-3, while Trea Turner was 1-for-4. Anthony Rendon ended the contest 0-for-2 plus a walk. Anibal Sanchez suffered the loss on the mound as he gave up two earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts and one walk over seven innings. Stephen Strasburg takes the mound tonight as he enters with a 16-6 record, 3.50 ERA and 1.05 WHIP plus 222 strikeouts across 185 innings.

Berrios tosses gem

Jose Berrios threw seven shutout innings Tuesday night at home to guide host Minnesota to a 5-0 victory over Washington. Berrios allowed two hits with four strikeouts and one walk over his seven scoreless frames. Mitch Garver helped lead the Twins offense as he finished 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and two RBIs. Jorge Polanco was 1-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs. Luis Arraez went 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Martin Perez gets the start tonight as he enters with a 10-6 record, 4.75 ERA and 1.46 WHIP plus 121 strikeouts over 147 1/3 innings pitched.

MLB Betting Trends

Washington

The Nationals are 12-3 in their last 15 Wednesday games. Washington is 1-5 in its last six games overall.

Minnesota

The Twins are 12-4 in their last 16 games overall. Minnesota is 4-1 in the last five Perez starts.

Prediction:

This is a starting pitching mismatch and the only saving grace for the Twins is that they are at home. With Washington focused on getting an NL Wild Card bid, winning games like this as a favorite is important. Look for the Nats offense to wake up considerably and provide Strasburg with needed help on the way to a road win.
