Cubs fall again to Brewers
Chicago lost by a score of 8-5 Sunday afternoon in a series finale at Milwaukee to drop to 76-66 overall and 29-42 on the road. Jason Heyward led the Cubs offensively as he finished 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs. Jon Lester helped his own cause as he was 1-for-2 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. David Bote went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run. Ben Zobrist ended the game 1-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Jon Lester suffered the loss as he gave up eight earned runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and three walks across 5 1/3 innings. Kyle Hendricks will start tonight for Chicago as he enters with a 9-9 record, 3.39 ERA and 1.10 WHIP plus 132 strikeouts over 154 innings pitched.
Padres edge Rockies in finale
San Diego earned a 2-1 home win in 10 innings Sunday afternoon over Colorado to move to 66-76 overall and 33-38 at home. Wil Myers led the Padres offensively as he was 3-for-5 with a double and the game-winning RBI single in the 10th. Luis Urias finished 1-for-3 with an RBI. Eric Hosmer was 1-for-4 plus a walk. Craig Stammen notched the win in relief as he struck out two in a perfect inning of work. MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The Cubs are 4-0 in their last four games versus the NL West. Chicago is 5-2 in the last seven Hendricks starts.
San Diego
The Padres are 2-5 in their last seven games versus the NL Central. San Diego is 6-13 in its last 19 series openers.
Prediction:
Quantrill has seemingly hit a speed bump in his rookie season as he was torched by a pair of good offenses in the Dodgers and D-backs in his last two outings. I can't trust him here against a talented Cubs offense, although it is one now without the services of the injured Javier Baez. With Hendricks pitching well lately and the Padres not having a dynamic offense, I think Chicago stops its skid here. Go with the favorites.
