Rays overcome early deficit
Tampa Bay trailed by two runs after the first inning Thursday night at Baltimore before coming back to claim a 5-2 victory. Austin Meadows paced the Rays offense as he finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double, a walk and two runs scored. Willy Adames went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs. Matt Duffy ended the contest 1-for-4 with a double and a run. Oliver Drake picked up the win in relief as he gave up one hit with two strikeouts and one walk over 1 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball. Emilio Pagan threw a spotless ninth inning to record the save. Trevor Richards will draw the start tonight for Tampa Bay as he enters with a 3-12 record, 4.53 ERA and 1.42 WHIP with 109 strikeouts over 115 1/3 innings pitched.
O's set MLB record for HRs allowed
Baltimore set a new MLB record for home runs surrendered Thursday night with still over a month of the season left to play as it lost 5-2 at home to Tampa Bay. Trey Mancini helped pace the Orioles offensively as he finished 1-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Renato Nunez finished 2-for-3 plus a walk. D.J. Stewart was 1-for-4 with a double. Miguel Castro took the loss in relief as he gave up two earned runs on two hits with one strikeout and two walks over one inning of work. Ty Blach will get the start tonight for Baltimore as he comes in with an 0-1 record, 12.06 ERA and 2.30 WHIP with 13 strikeouts over 15 2/3 innings pitched.
MLB Betting Trends
The Rays are 10-1 in their last 11 road games. Tampa Bay is 20-8 in its last 28 road games versus a left-handed starter.
The Orioles are 17-44 in their last 61 Friday games. Baltimore is 1-4 in the last five meetings.
Blach has not shown much in his MLB career and while Richards has had some struggles of his own, I like his chances to take major steps forward under the direction of Tampa Bay's elite management of pitchers. The Rays seem to be trending back in the right direction and I like them to record another win here.
